Summer Wine On-line

Welcome to the official web site of the Summer Wine Appreciation Society, in partnership with Holmfirth Web. This is our tribute to the world's longest-running TV comedy series which is filmed in the Holme Valley, and surrounding villages.

AN EXTRA SPECIAL THANK YOU TO HOLMFIRTH...FROM THE USA

Elizabeth Nichols was a very special visitor to Holmfirth in 2002.  She flew from the USA on her own to join the cast, crew and people of Holmfirth celebrating the 30th anniversary of the world's longest-running TV comedy series - Last of the Summer Wine.

Elizabeth was presented with a special "thank you" present from the Mayor of Kirklees (see photo below) and was also interviewed in the local press and on BBC local radio and TV.  She also made many friends in Holmfirth.

It is with honour that Summer Wine Online now carries the following special message from Elizabeth, following that special occasion.

Elizabeth's Message

It has been very hard to put into words my trip to Holmfirth. The purpose of the trip was to see the beautiful scenery and to attend the Celebration dinner to honor "Last of the Summer Wine".

Since this was the 30th year celebration I really wanted to show them that I have such a love and appreciation for the program. It has meant so very much to me over the years.

It was a once in a life time event and I am so fortunate to have been there. It turned out to be much more than I expected.

If you check the Holmfirth Web and Summer Wine Online you will see what I mean.

Meeting Roy Clarke, the cast, the crew and watching filming on location was more than I expected. I was not disappointed in the village of Holmfirth.   Everyone was so helpful and went out of their way to make me feel welcome. The country side is so beautiful - I would be very happy to live there.

Holmfirth is so different compared to the fast paced area that I live in. There are a lot of people to thank for making my trip to Holmfirth so wonderful. I will get in touch with them personally (what great people).

I was hoping that there would be at least one other fan from the USA there. I can tell you that you missed a once in a lifetime event. I guess I am what you would call a "Die-Hard" fan. If there is a 35th year celebration - I will be there.

Thanks for everything. Elizabeth Nichols USA
