HEAR
THOSE DISTINCTIVE VOICES
FROM SUMMER WINE
Glorious Sound Arrives at the Summer Wine website
New!
Read our fan mail about the audio interviews.
We
know from your emails that many of you enjoy reading the cast
interviews on the Summer Wine website. But wouldn't it be so
much better if you could actually listen to the rich and distinctive
voices of Compo and Clegg and other famous characters from the
series?
Well now you can. Glorious sound has finally arrived, courtesy of a
unique and exciting link up between Summer
Wine Online and freelance reporter Mike Wallbank - plus a
now-closed but sadly missed hospital radio station.
Not only can you listen to the voices - but these are real,
exclusive interviews never before heard before by a wide
audience.
Mike is well known locally in the Holmfirth area, having
worked on the Express and Chronicle newspapers for many years,
as well as the popular and much-admired Summer Wine Tourist
Guide.
Not many locals also realise that Mike has spent a number of
years devoting his time to hospital radio. It was while
working for 8 Towns Radio - the hospital broadcasting service
across the Pennines at Tameside General Hospital,
Ashton-under-Lyne - that Mike had the chance to interview the
LOTSW cast for one of his programmes.
The interviews, heard by patients at the hospital, were very
popular at the time.
Sadly, 8 Towns Radio has since closed but Mike has gone
onto present and produce programmes for Radio Starlion at
Stepping Hill Hospital in Stockport.
However, in a big boost to Summer Wine fans all over the
world, Mike has agreed to make the interviews available
exclusively to the Summer Wine website.
We are starting with the two famous characters - Compo and
Clegg. More will be added later. All the interviews were
conducted in Holmfirth during the early 1990s. We know you
will enjoy these as much as we've enjoyed getting them ready
for fans to listen to.
For enthusiasts, we are also including a link to a fascinating
and very newsy website run
by Mike devoted to 8 Towns Radio - www.8townsradio.co.uk
Bill's son, Tom Owen, has given his blessing to the project,
and has welcomed the opportunity to listen
to the archive interview of his father.
The photos - taken during the time of the
interviews - was kindly provided by Clive Eardley, President
of the Summer Wine Appreciation Society.
The latest edition of the Summer Wine Country Tourist Guide is
on sale in Holmfirth price £1.75, or you can order a copy by
phone on 01484 430000.
