Summer Wine On-line

Welcome to the official web site of the Summer Wine Appreciation Society, in partnership with Holmfirth Web. This is our tribute to the world's longest-running TV comedy series which is filmed in the Holme Valley, and surrounding villages.

The Helen Jones Photo Collection 2004

USA Fan Helen Jones had a fantastic time during her July stay in Holmfirth.  Following a previous visit last year, her dream was to catch a glimpse of the Summer Wine filming, on location in Holmfirth.

Dates and details are not published in advance and, as our regulars know, some the locations are on private property, off the beaten track, and a bit tricky to find.

However, things looked promising after a chance meeting with LOTSW producer Alan JW Bell. After hearing how far she had travelled, Helen was invited to several location shoots just outside Holmfirth.  See the photo above of Alan and Helen on location.

Not only that...she ended up as an "extra" on one of the shots. "I just could not believe it," she told Summer Wine Online. "I don't think my feet touched the ground.

"I originally changed my schedule to visit Holmfirth a few days earlier to take part in the Compo Statue Collection outside Sid's Cafe. It was fantastic meeting Tom and we had a lovely chat.

"I also hoped to see some of the other stars of the show on a location shoot.  My dream came true after a chance meeting with Alan Bell in Holmfirth. I was very lucky and had a fantastic time!"

Helen will be writing an item for the Holmfirth-based Summer Wine website upon her return to USA but in the meantime here are a few snapshots from the filming.

These photos may take a few moments to download but, as usual, they are well worth the wait!
