Summer Wine On-line

Welcome to the official web site of the Summer Wine Appreciation Society, in partnership with Holmfirth Web. This is our tribute to the world's longest-running TV comedy series which is filmed in the Holme Valley, and surrounding villages.

A Pint (or two) at the Butcher's Arms, Hepworth

Another  Location Report by Mike Fernley

I set off from home at 6am and as I headed over the Pennines on the M62
the fog got thicker.

However after I picked Clive Eardley up and headed into Holmfirth the sun appeared, another glorious day in Summer Wine Country.

It was nice to chat to Peter Sallis whilst waiting at base. It's been
a few years since I last chatted to Peter, and he is such a joy to talk
to.

It was also whilst waiting at base that we chatted with guest star
Valerie Leon (hands up all those gentlemen who remember the Hai Karate
adverts, or the queen of amazonians in 'Carry On Up The Jungle').

The mornings filming was taking place at the Butchers Arms in Hepworth
and involved a great turn out of the cast. On set were Peter, Frank,
Brian, Burt, Keith, Robert, Jean F, Juliette and Valerie Leon.

The sun stayed with us throughout the shoot as various scenes were filmed
outside the pub.

The afternoon took us to a field that had been used last year, in the
shade of the 'Watching the Clock' tree (also used in 'Welcome to
Earth'). The afternoon's stars included Robert, Jean F, Brian, Keith and
Valerie and involved lots of fun with bow and arrows.

The day drew to a close and once again it was time for me to head
westward.
