Summer Wine On-line

Welcome to the official web site of the Summer Wine Appreciation Society, in partnership with Holmfirth Web. This is our tribute to the world's longest-running TV comedy series which is filmed in the Holme Valley, and surrounding villages.

SUMMER WINE PREVIEW NIGHT
E-PRAISE

Phew! We have been taken aback at Holmfirth Web by your e-response to our Summer Wine preview report. Many thanks indeed for all your marvellous notes. Within hours of the special event taking place, a report and photographs appeared on our web pages. The following day, the first e-mails arrived. By the end of the weekend, we had dozens – and they are still coming in! We love the feedback and thank everyone for taking the time and trouble to write.

….Just a line to thank everyone for the great Summer Wine Page, and I look forward to being able to 'E' my comments. Thanks for the news and tributes, it's more than the 'beeb' managed. P.S. The Holmfirth site is excellent, full of useful information for we prospective visitors. Thanks again, Pat Carline.

MOST IMPRESSED

Philip Peaker, of the popular Holme Valley Camping and Caravan Park – which has just won the David Bellamy Gold Award for Conservation – said he was most impressed with the content on the Summer Wine and Holmfirth Web Pages. “I got another e-mail yesterday from someone who had seen my advert on the Holmfirth Web pages, and they too remarked on the excellent content. Well done!”

….well done Holmfirth Web. I was enthralled by the report on Summer Wine on TV’s Look North and then to see the marvellous pictures and the interesting write-up within hours of the event taking place was fantastic. I was moved by the speeches and impressed with the speedy technology.

….I was in tears reading the item by Kathy Staff about Compo on the web page. I never considered myself a big fan of Summer Wine in the past but I have been touched by the event at the Picturedrome, and the tributes to the fine actor. I am really looking forward to the next series.

…Bill Owen was a very fine actor and he brought a unique magic to the Summer Wine programme. I honestly thought that would be the end of the series following the sad demise of Bill. Your report not only restored my confidence in the future of the programme but I have reason to suspect that Tom will bring an extra entertaining dimension to the programme. I was very impressed with all the attention made by the BBC and the people of Holmfirth to remember Bill Owen – it is what the fine actor deserved.

While on an extended holiday in Greece, we have been keeping in touch with the Summer Wine developments via Holmfirth Web. We live over in Cheshire and love the series. At the moment, we have a crowd round the computer screen (including Alice and Roger from Brockholes!) studying the pictures and the details about Friday’s tribute night. Many thanks for bringing us these details, it is really appreciated.

…We felt we had been at the Picturedrome paying our tributes to Compo, whom we had never met, but deeply loved as a character.

…we live in Texas and used to watch the show on the comedy network cable. We could not imagine what it would be like without Compo, the undisputed star of the show. Thanks for your report and we are looking forward to seeing the new “star” Tom, his real life son. It may be some time before we get to see it though. We are a year behind at least!
