Summer Wine On-line

Welcome to the official web site of the Summer Wine Appreciation Society, in partnership with Holmfirth Web. This is our tribute to the world's longest-running TV comedy series which is filmed in the Holme Valley, and surrounding villages.

THEY'RE BACK IN TOWN!
Summer 2000

It's official! The Summer Wine crews are back in Holmfirth filming for the 2001 series.  Holmfirth Web and Summer-Wine.com joined them on location outside Nora Batty's home, in the centre of town.

Early morning tourists and locals in the centre of town were given a delightful surprise to see the familiar flood-lamps, camera towers and BBC crews hiving away outside Nora Batty's home. Nora Batty stole the show complete with her familiar blue raincoat despite the scorching temperatures. She was also carrying her trademark brown shopping bag.

Tom Owen was also due to take part a little later in the morning. By nine in the morning, a crowd had gathered on the bridge on Hollowgate and a policeman was on duty to keep the traffic flowing. Many people in the crowd could not believe how long it took to set up each shot.  A good hour of getting the camera, sound and lighting right - and then a cast member would pop on for a few moments to complete the shot. Filming is to continue in and around the town during much of June but the BBC always keep the locations top secret!
