Summer Wine On-line

Welcome to the official web site of the Summer Wine Appreciation Society, in partnership with Holmfirth Web. This is our tribute to the world's longest-running TV comedy series which is filmed in the Holme Valley, and surrounding villages.

Summer Wine FAQs

We both look forward to hearing from you

Patrick (pictured right with Tom Owen) has lived in West Yorkshire, England, all his life, the past 10 years in the Summer Wine town of Holmfirth.

A former journalist on local newspapers (including the Holme Valley Express), Patrick now runs his own media business - Area5 News and PR - based in Holmfirth.

Apart from being a Summer Wine fan (he watched the very first episodes back in the early 70s) he also enjoys using new technology to develop stronger communities.

"One of our current Area5 contracts is helping to boost community life in a regeneration area of Huddersfield, and we do this through our own reader-friendly full-colour newsletter, which goes down really well,  and a busy website.

"Running the Summer Wine website is a little like this, but on a much grander scale.  When we first set up the website five years ago with the appreciation society, all our hits were from the UK.  Now they are from all over the world, particularly the States where the programme has such a strong and enthusiastic following.

"In fact, over 70 per cent of our total hits now come from the States and this is reflected in our American sponsor.

"I strongly welcome this new global community, which can only benefit the programme, and I am strongly indebted to all the people who support the website in so many different ways.

"Their dedication and enthusiasm will keep the Summer Wine flowing for many, many years, for the benefit of everyone who loves the show."

Pat Carline is a Yorkshire lass and lives in Doncaster in what is now ‘South’ Yorkshire but which (before South Yorkshire was politically created) used to be, like Holmfirth, in the West Riding of Yorkshire.

Pat is married with an assortment of children and grandchildren and has been a fan and regular viewer of Last of the Summer Wine since the pilot episode – her children were all brought up watching it and she is now introducing it to her grandchildren.

As co-editor Pat will be sharing as many duties as possible and will also be producing a new ‘page’ – ‘Pat’s Piece’, which we all hope will add a new dimension to the site, hopefully the more diverse subject matter will add interest and create discussion.

Pat also has her own email address for Pat’s Piece, for you to send your comments on her page and any questions you would like her to try and answer!
