SUMMER WINE CLASSICS - YOUR EMAILS
The "black and white" vintage years onwards.

Many thanks for all your super messages. We had so many emails that we could not reply to all of them!  We are delighted everyone is enjoying them so much.  Published below are a selection of your comments, sorry we could not use them all. Some emails have also been edited down a little for space reasons.

Can I just offer you and the Summer Wine team my congratulations for your latest "classic" photos. I was stunned to see the old photos from the show, I must have studied each picture for about 15 minutes, and then went back again.  I have watched the show since it started and these photographs brought back so many vivid memories. It was really lovely to see pictures of Michael Bates again, he has been largely ignored up to now. And just look at Compo and Clegg - I thought they had always looked old

I have lived in the sunny island of Majorca for nearly 12 years now, the hot weather is a far cry from the north of England where i lived most of my life. I have always been a big fan of LOTSW and very happy to watch the occasional episode courtesy of UK Gold. We also have a  largish collection of video tapes. I have always been a regular to your website but never been moved to write before, until we saw your old photo album.  I wanted to tell you how much we all enjoyed looking at the photos. I can remember watching some of these like first programmes like it was yesterday.  Before we emigrated, we used to visit Holmfirth to see the sights from the programme and some of your black and white pictures brought back very happy memories.

Although I don't wish to reveal my full name and details, I know only too well about the effort involved in getting these photos ready to publish on the SW site, it was quite an effort and I would like to thank and congratulate everyone involved.  I know they will bring a great deal of pleasure not only to fans but to all those connected with the world's longest running series. As the press would say, it is a once in a lifetime scoop!

Your "classic" black and white photos are simply fantastic.  I keep going back to them time and time again. I, for on, am very, very grateful for displaying these photographs on a site that is still free for fans.  I plan to express my appreciation by making a donation to the statue fund. Perhaps other fans would do the same?  We are planning to visit Summer Wine country next year - it can't come soon enough.

I can remember those pictures from LOTSW first time round!  What a lot of pleasure you have brought for me, and I am sure many other fans. I wish I was still the same age as I was when first clapping eyes on Compo, Clegg and Blamire.  Those were the golden years, but the Summer Wine keeps getting better.

I can't speak for any other Americans, but I don't think we ever saw any of the first very Summer Wines over here. How surprised was I to see the strange "third" character.  And I thought I knew everything about SW.  There was a whole life going on before I started tuning in. Very odd.

Please, please publish more of those fab pictures, they are an education. Well done to everyone at the site.

Although we have not written to your website for a while, we really had to drop a line again after really enjoying your old pictures. They are original and first class. Many thanks, please put more on the site quickly.

Keep up the good efforts in Holmfirth, your old photos were the best we've seen of Compo. They brought back happy memories to a family of devoted Summer Winers.
